Why We Love: John Wall

Posted: May 11, 2010 by NattieLiz in NBA, NCAA Basketball

Freshman Kentucky Basketball Star, John Wall, has decided that he will not be coming back for a 2nd year of college.. instead this young stud is headed for the NBA draft on June 24th, 2010. This is pretty bold decision for an 19 year-old, but let’s be honest, John Wall isn’t the least bit shy… BOLD is his middle name!

1. THE JOHN WALL DANCE: EPIC!!!  check it out, and start practicing.. cause its taking over!

2. Wall was a one-and-done No. 1 overall NBA draft pick from the time he arrived on Kentucky’s campus last fall. He single handedly brought Kentucky basketball back to its standards.

3. Watching John Wall play for just one collegiate season was a blessing to not only Kentucky fans, but all college Bball fans. Watching him play has been described as “intoxicating”… and let me tell ya, if I can get intoxicated from just watching basketball.. I am SO THERE!

4.  Next Tuesday, if the Nets win the draft lottery, it looks like John Wall will be kickin’ it with Snookie & Co. in Jersey… but even with that said, this young man will be going as the #1 Draft pick. (Pistons also hoping to win that Lottery on May 18th)

5.  Both coaches and fans can respect his early decision to leave Kentucky and head to the NBA: “I sat back about a week and a half and just realized we could win it (if he returned next season), But there’s no guarantee what would happen next year. I just feel like it was an opportunity to go. After I talked with my family and the coaching staff I just felt like it was time to go.”

6.  He has become close friends with The King.  Lebron James is a self admitted John Wall fan. The two became friends at  Lebron’s  all-American camp. James has traveled to UK games and the two have been spotted hanging out with the Oh-so-popular rap star DRAKE.

7.  Wall’s father died when he was 9 of liver cancer, and since it has been a struggle for him and his mother. He attended 3 different high schools in 5 years, had differences with players and coaches alike, but he remained dedicated to the sport. His hard work has CLEARLY paid off in full.

8.  He Loves his MAMA!!: “People ask me what I’m going to do with my money,” Wall said. “I’m just worried about getting my Mom a house and a car, just to let her relax and show her I love her so much for all she’s done for me.”

9.  Even though I am slightly ACC bias, I have to give Wall some credit  for being  from Raleigh, NC and deciding against all four ACC schools in the region. He chose Kentucky over Memphis, Miami, N.C. State, Baylor, Duke and Kansas…. (Miami would only be so lucky!)

10.  And always last but not least: His stats ladies…. 6’4, 195 lbs, but a youngin!
