Open Season

The US Open was this past weekend & it was once again, all eyes on Tiger.  He has been the number 1 golfer in the world for quite a while now & there’s a good chance that this title could be handed over to Phil Mickelson sometime in the near future.  If Phil won this weekend, this was the case but everyone seemed to have a lot of trouble at Pebble Beach, except for Graeme McDowell, who took the top prize & was the first European to win the US Open in 40 years.  The best thing about McDowell is that he’s Irish but lived here in the south for a while so he has the most confusing accent that is so entertaining to listen to.  Tiger & Phil both finished at 4 over, which for the average golfer is great but for the Tigers of the world, it’s pretty downright terrible.

For those who don’t understand the terminology of golf, let me fill you in.  There are 18 holes on a golf course & each hole is given a certain number of shots that you are allotted to shoot (called par.)  If for example, the hole has a par 4 you should get it in in 4 shots.  If you shoot one less then par, that’s called birdie & 2 less is an eagle.  One over par is called a bogey, 2 over is double bogey, 3 over triple bogey & so on.  Really, if you go more then a triple bogey you shouldn’t be a professional golfer.  If you get par, you are even.  Birdies & eagles give you negative numbers & bogeys give you positive so the smaller number, the better.

Graeme Macdowell was a good winner and I was happy for him but when he thinks back on this how happy can he really be. He shot a +3…I really hope someone can start stepping up and not just choking like they always do
