The Big 600

Alex Rodriguez of the NY Yankees hit the 599th homerun of his career tonight.  He will be only the 8th person in history to join the elite club of 600 homeruns.  As a long-time A-Rod fan, I am extremely excited about this milestone but it does not appear that most people feel the same way.  It took a while for Alex to be accepted by Yankee fans but after his great postseason last year, it felt like fans finally welcomed him as a member of the team.  After his admittance of steroid use for a 3 year period of time, it seems as if this milestone may not be as big of a deal as it should be.  Barry Bonds was loved by the people of San Fran when he was going for the all-time record & although he has never admitted it, most people believe he was also a steroid user.

I think leading up to his 500th, everyone praised A-Rod for being the youngest player to ever reach that number & his name had never been linked to steroids at the time.  Now is a different story.  This should be one of the biggest stories of the year & had his name never been said in the same sentence as the word steroid, it probably would be.  Alex will be by far the youngest player to reach 600 but we might not feel the same way about it now as we once did.  He will more then likely become the next homerun king but a lot of people will always put an asterisk next to that achievement because of the steroid era.  It doesn’t matter how you feel about him, he will hit the homerun & it will be a very big deal.  So keep an eye out for it gals & if you’re at the game be sure to bring your glove because you will leave a much wealthier person then when you arrived.

    good write up.

Love the article, it was definitely well worth the read. Alex Rodriguez is obviously going to get to 600 but i still will always have this feeling that it is somewhat tainted just like i do with so many other steroid users. People don’t like A-Rod the way they do with other guys either, which I think really hurts him. A-Rod will go down as one of the greatest players to play the gaem but it might not be fully justified. I hope more information comes out at some point.
