A Mag Worth Picking Up!

ESPN the Magazine has big plans for its September issue.  There is an NFL feature with faces of the game, that includes coaches, owners, agents, and athletes. Among those covered are Ravens stud Ray Lewis and Titans Running Back Chris Johnson. Oh, and Yes ladies, your prayers and mine have been answered: they feature Mark Sanchez. But it’s a catch 22 because as my prayers are answered my nightmares are coming true, because they also profile Tim Tebow (#gatorhater). The Mag calls Mark Sanchez the ‘It Boy’ and they use this perfectly worded description: “He’s got Mexican roots, Trojan training and a Big Apple address. Throw in a playoff run as the Jets’ rookie QB, and presto — you’ve got It.”

Here are some snap shots from the issue… ENJOY! and go pick it up Sept. 6th!

Newest DWTS Athletes

Last night the new cast of Dancing with the Stars was announced. The roster includes Micheal Bolton, Brandy, Margaret Cho, Jennifer Grey, THE HOFF!, Florence Henderson, Kyle Massey, Bristol Palin, Audrina Patridge, and “The Situation”.

The Athletes that decided to take on the dancing challenge are none other than Ex-Lakers Hottie, Rick Fox, and the old God fearing QB himself, Kurt Warner!  Both should be super fun to watch.

There are many topics that have been tumbling through the world of sports & one of them is hair.  If it were Twitter, it would be a trending topic.  A few weeks ago we mentioned Tim Tebow’s new do & some rookie-hazing haircuts and now we’ve got a few more stories.

1st off we have Troy Polamalu, Safety for the Pittsburgh Steelers (or more affectionately known by some people as the Shitsburgh Squeelers.)  Polamalu is known for his long flowing locks but now it’s been taken to a whole new level.  He appears in Head & Shoulders commercials so the shampoo company took out a $1 million insurance policy on his hair.  You can imagine he won’t be cutting it anytime soon.  His hair now makes more money then some of his teammates.

The next bit of news surrounding hair is about Manny Ramirez.  Manny has had his long dreads since his days with the Red Sox & he gets away with a lot of things that other players wouldn’t because everyone just blames it on “Manny being Manny.”  He has recently been claimed off waivers from the Dodgers & will join the Chicago White Sox tonight.  Normally the White Sox have a policy on clean-cut appearances so the players can represent their team the right way.  This would mean that Manny would have to cut his hair to be on the team but they have allowed him to keep his dreads so Manny can just be Manny.  When your team is falling behind in the standings & you just got one of the best hitters in the game, I guess you want him to be himself.

The last one comes to us from St. Louis.  The Cardinals have fallen behind in both their division & the Wildcard race so as a gesture for team unity, everyone shaved their heads.  They did it yesterday but so far it didn’t work, as they lost the game but I guess you do what you’ve gotta do.

A Fantastic Season

Many people have heard of Fantasy sports but they don’t know how they work, well if you are one of those people, then problem solved!  With football season about to begin, drafts for fantasy football are either coming up or have already passed.  It’s a great way to bring your office together if you’re all in a league & it’s tons of fun to trash talk.  Same goes for friends, strangers or just abuot anyone you can drag into your league.  With Fantasy sports, you are part of a league that has maybe 10-14 teams in it.  You pick real players & put together your personal dream team & use their stats to give you points.

With football, you don’t pick every single position on the field, but mainly all the offensive ones: Quarterback, Running Back, Wide Receiver, Tight End, Kicker & Defense.  There are several categories that you need to get.  The main thing, as you can probably imagine is Touchdowns.  You also get points for how many yards they all get, whether it’s running, catching or passing.  Kickers get points for extra point kicks & field goals (the longer the FG, the more points you get.)  Defense gets more points for lower scores against plus any interceptions, fumbles, sacks or safeties.

Some would say the best part of Fantasy is the naming of your team.  You may not get points for a great name but you always get alot of credit for your creativity.  I always enjoy a good old play on names of your favorite players or football terms.  My team name last year was “Tuck U” & this year I’ve got “Rock & Rolle”.  I believe SamSank is “Rice Rice Baby.”  Some other favorites include “No Punt Intended,” “I’m Thinkin’ RB’s,” “Sacks & the City” & “The Brady Bundchen.” There are way more better names but these are just some I’ve heard of.  Comment with your favorites!

Gotta love some D. Fish

So a friend and I were doing some training out here in LA on Sunday, and came across our very own local Legend Derek Fisher already getting in some work in the off-season. We chatted with him after his work out and he even let my friend snag a photo. He’s  great dude that loves his fans, and the fans love him back for that very reason. Thanks for making this JC’s Sunday. GO LAKERS!

A great story comes to us from Oakland, CA & the A’s ball boy.  During a game against the Rays the other day, the A’s bullpen pitchers pointed out a girl in the stands to their ball boy.  Thinking she was cute, they told him that every foul ball he got that night, he should give to her.  So first ball he gets, he points at her & gives her the ball.   He did this three more times to bring her total of souvenirs to 5. The 5th one came from a security guard with a note on it that said “How about a phone number for our ball man, Kevin.”  So she obliged & wrote down her phone number to give to him.

The next day not only did they have their first date but they also got to be on ESPN 3 days in a row.  They went out to eat & reported back to let America know how the date went.  He took her to a very expensive restaurant & the check was picked up by the A’s bullpen pitchers.  Even if it doesn’t work out with these two, what a great story to tell your friends!  Best of luck kids!
