Long-time baseball man Lou Piniella is leaving the game he has been a part of professionaly since 1969.  He announced earlier this year that he would retire at the end of the season but his mother is very sick so he has decided to hang up his spikes a little earlier to spend time with his family.  Today was Lou’s last game & it’s too bad the Cubs couldn’t step up their game for him because they lost 16-5 against the Braves.  Piniella is best known for his firey style of playing & managing & was always quick to jump down an umpire’s throat.  He’s been in a few commercials & is very quick to make fun of himself.

When fans yell “Yoooouuuuuk” or “Moooooooooooose” for their players & it sounds like they’re booing, that all started with “Looooooouuuu.”  Piniella is 1 of 3 people in history to have at least 1,500 hits as a player & 1,500 wins as a manager.  He has managed 3,548 games & won 1,835 of those games.  He won 3 World Series rings as a player & 1 as a manager.  During his press conference after the game he broke down in tears when he said it was the last time he’d be putting on a baseball uniform & it was very emotional.  He is known to be a great baseball man who was never afraid to speak his mind & the baseball world will certainly miss you & your antics, Lou.  One thing is for sure, we look forward to seeing you at Old Timer’s Day at Yankee Stadium next year!
