College Football: Week 1 Games

Posted: August 25, 2010 by NattieLiz in NCAA Football

College Football Kicks off in just 8 days!!! We are literally one week away from personalized T-Shirts, face paint, booze, and sunshine filled games!

Here are some must watch games for Week 1:

USC v. Hawaii, at Hawaii

USC will be opening its first season under new head coach Lane Kiffin—a season in which the Trojans are ineligible for a bowl game following NCAA sanctions. On paper this isn’t a great game and USC should roll over Hawaii without any trouble. But is has been the goal of  USC and Kiffin to make sure that those sanctions don’t affect how they play. But let’s be honest here, the power house that is USC is no longer. So if you want to see USC potentially get the smack down, due to a lack of focus, then tune in! Thursday, September 2nd

LSU v. North Carolina in Atlanta

The SEC has a 2-0 lead over the ACC in the Chick-Fil-A Kickoff Classic at the Georgia Dome. This year will be a bit more interesting when the young LSU team takes the powerful defense of  UNC. LSU should have the advantage in this game because even with their weak defense, they can stop the inefficiency of  UNC’s offense. Weak offenses and good defenses equal low scores, but the best part of college football is to expect the unexpected. Saturday, September 4th

Virginia Tech v.Boise State in Landover, Maryland

This is the game of the week – Boise State, travels to Landover, Maryland to face Virginia Tech at FedEx field.

These teams are pretty evenly matched this season. Boise State returns nine starters on both offense and defense. VT returns seven on offense but only three on defense.  The VT football program is built on its powerful defense, but in 2010 that D line might be on the fritz. But even with that, they are predicted to be the ACC champs.  Boise State gave us a great show of the underdog all last season, if they survive this week, they may be well on their way to their first BCS bowl game. Monday, September 6th

Big Ten:

Purdue vs Notre Dame in South Bend, IN.

The Boilermakers will open their season in South Bend as they take on the Fighting Irish. Purdue is coming off a 5-7 season, but their ’09 claim to fame was an upset win over Big Ten power house, Ohio State. The biggest expectation going into this game is the debut of Purdue’s newest QB transfer, Robert Marve. Working with a semi-decent offense it will be great to see if he has any problems getting past the Irish.

Experts predict that Notre Dame will start their season strong with a win over Purdue, which will give them the momentum going into a difficult schedule this season.  But don’t write off the Boilermakers yet. Notre Dame has to give their new head coach, Brian Kelly the official try out. Saturday, September 4th
