Tough Loss: Randy Shannon

Posted: November 29, 2010 by NattieLiz in coaches, Fans, NCAA Football, University of Miami

Well apparently losing to USF was the last draw for the Miami Fans. Randy Shannon just had to go. On saturday night there was an emergency meeting called by University President Donna Shalala, Director of Athletics Kirby Hocutt, and the board of trustees to determine the fate of head football coach, Randy Shannon.

It was decided that after a 28-22 record over his four seasons, Randy Shannon just wasn’t winning enough games, and was fired that night. Some people argue that this was a bad choice because they need to close the recruiting year with a solid head coach. No kid wants to come to a school and not know who their head coach is going to be that season. It looks like Miami will be starting over, again.

There is one thing to remember in all of this, Shannon was brought in to clean up the Miami program and put it back on the road to a championship and he did just that. He came in and cleaned up the program, played the role of tough disciplinarian and graduated more players than any other coach before him. That is something to be very proud of and Miami fans should be grateful that Shannon was there to lay a new foundation. In a press conference yesterday Coach Shannon had this to say,””I am proud of the last four years at the University of Miami. I have a deep respect and appreciation for the young men who have played here during my tenure.” I think it is safe to say that “The State of Miami” also has respect for the effort and work Randy Shannon put into the school and football program.

Players were emotional on sunday morning and vowed to win a bowl game in honor of Shannon. Quarterback, Jacory Harris had this to say about his coach, “It was very emotional, Coach Shannon is somebody, like I said, that’s a father figure. When you lose your father, of course you’re going to be emotional.”

Future Field Rushing Fan

Yesterday ASU defeated UCLA in a 55-34 victory. UCLA loses its bowl eligibility due to this loss in the 13th week. But there was a slightly larger FAIL that happen during the game. In the 4th quarter, as UCLA TE Joseph Fauria is in the End zone, scoring his first career touchdown, a kid falls 10 feet from the stands directly behind him. The kid didn’t cry or show any signs of serious injury. WOW. That’s a real fan, if he is already jumping out of the stands as a kid, when he gets in college things are gonna be real interesting. And Fauria must be stoked that people already get that excited for him! hahaha… It is a great story for him to tell about his first TD! Check out the video!

This story featured on CBS today before the Patriots-Lions game.  It is a very heart-warming Thanksgiving story & really makes you thankful for what you’ve got.  It’s about Chris Henry, the late Bengals player who was killed in a car accident last year.  Warning: you’re going to cry but it’s a beautiful story.  Have a safe & happy Thanksgiving! ❤ JC

If you don’t know what a New York Yankee looks like, I’ll tell you: Derek Jeter.  He has been the face of the organization since he was a wittle baby in 1996.  Not only has he been the face, but also the heart.  To the Yankees he is a priceless commodity so when it comes to his current predicament, how do you put a price on someone like him?  Jeter’s contract was up at the end of this past season so he is now a free agent.

The Yankees offered him a 3-year, $45 million contract which is generous by any measure.  That is, for those of us not great at math, $15 million a year.  Jeter thought this was not enough, however.  He made $21 million last year so it is a considerable paycut for him.  Derek, though had the worst year of his career last year & will be turning 37 this June, which in baseball terms is ancient.  He still thinks of himself as among baseball’s elite and so deserves that much money.  The Yankees have encouraged him to test the market & see how much other teams offer him, because they are confident he won’t be offered more then that.  The intangibles he has brought to the Yankees make him more valuable there then anywhere else, not to mention the unwavering love showered upon him every day by Yankee fans.  The NY Post today, however decided to give Yankee fans a bit of a heart attack with this picture…

If that God forsaken photo ever happened in real life, the man who is currently king of NY would never be allowed back there, for fear of his life.  I’m quite sure it would never happen but it’s certainly a scary thought for any Yankee fan.  When the dust settles, I do believe Derek will be back in a Yankee uniform, as will Mariano Rivera & Andy Pettitte.

I was working on something for the show I work on & I came across this video & thought it was pretty funny.  This year Roger Federer started out as the #1 ranked tennis player in the world but was usurped by Rafael Nadal.  They are the fiercest competitors in their sport but as is evident by this video, they are also very good friends…& very sexy.
