The Los Angles Lakers battled it out with the Boston Celtics last Sunday and fell short. But for me the main event was not the Game itself, it was the event held afterwards, Nike’s introduction of the new K.O.B.E. Line. Nike decided to create 3 different kind of Kobe VI for the different neighborhoods in So Cal: East LA, The OC, and Hollywood.

The Launch came with a very cool new Nike productions Movie. “The Black Mamba” is a 7 minute film created by Nike and Directed by Robert Rodriguez, starring Kobe Bryant, Kanye West, and Bruce Willis. This is a MAJOR marketing campaign for Nike to spread the word about the new K.O.B.E Line.  K.O.B.E. stands for:, O.riginate, B.attle, E.levate.

Free Agent Frenzy

I was at a bbq this afternoon with a number of work friends & as I work in a sports industry, the topic of conversation is 9 times out of 10, surprise! Sports.  I was trying to think of what I should blog about today & the overwhelming topic that everyone was discussing was NBA free agency.  Since this is obviously the hottest topic right now, whatchu think I’m writing about?  You guessed it, friends:  NBA free agency.

The crown jewel of the free agent crown is none other then the King, LeBron James.  Tonight at midnight on the East Coast is when the chaos will begin.  Teams have already made reservations with players to wine & dine them at 12:01 & try to convince them why their team is the best choice.  Dwayne Wade wants to stay in Miami but then again, why would anyone want to leave Miami?  Who will join him?  Will it be Chris Bosh?  Will Dirk Nowitzki go to Chicago?  Will the Big Apple draw in the big man, Amare Stoudemire?  What about the LA Clippers for Paul Pierce?  Will New Jersey net Joe Johnson?  Will I ever stop asking questions & making plays on words?  Nobody knows.  Not yet anyway.  Everyone has their own opinions as to who should go where, but it comes down to one thing: a championship ring.  No matter what happens, we are in for an exciting NBA off-season!

Sweet Redemption

On Thursday night the Los Angeles Lakers fought tooth and nail to win Game 7 of the NBA Finals, making them Back to Back NBA CHAMPIONS!!!!! The Lakers came out seeking redemption for the Celtics win in the 2008 Finals, and they more than achieved that.

Being a LA native, I was fortunate enough to be here to experience one of the greatest games of the Lakers 2010 season. Every single bar was packing up at 3pm, with a 6pm game tip-off. The Staple Center was insane, and you could feel the excitement and tension in the city all day. I was lucky enough to share a bar stool with my best friend, but my butt cheek didn’t stay down long, because by the 3rd quarter you could not help but stand, scream, cheer, and throw a ton of high fives!

This was one of the worst starts in the entire Lakers season. The Celtics had great and almost unstoppable defense.  The Celtics lead 40- 34 at the half, but this was only the start of one of the toughest wins in Lakers history.  The Celtics kept up their momentum and the Lakers struggled to gain any kind of control. In the 3rd quarter the Celtics were up by double digits, but at the start of the 4th quarter it was a 4 point game.  Then, Los Angeles’s hero, Derek Fisher came in with the 3  to tie it up.  This started the Lakers game winning drive, The Lakers came back from a 13 point deficit to beat Boston 83-79.

Kobe was the Finals MVP, but this was by far his worse game. Artest, was the games MVP, a well deserved honor.  It is his first ring, he had 20 points,  5 rebounds, and 5 steals. The classic quote of the night came from Artest, “I’d like to thank my psychiatrist”.  Hey, he might be crazy, but crazy just paid off!
