Oregon Reveals BCS Uniforms

Posted: December 15, 2010 by NattieLiz in Brett Favre, NCAA Football, Oregon Ducks

Oregon will take on Auburn in the BCS National Championship Game, January 10, 2011. This past Tuesday Nike unveiled the uniforms the Ducks will be sporting on the field that day. The team is known for their uniform swagg but this one might take the cake. Let’s hope Cam Newton has his sunglasses on, because with those neon socks running up on him, he’s gonna need em!

Goodbye For Real This Time?

After 297 consecutive games started & 19 years of playing, Brett Favre is officially done (well, at least we think so.)  Even with all the criticism he has recieved over the past few years, it is still one of the greatest individual achievements in all of sports.  If you are a freshman in college, you have never known football without Brett Favre starting at QB.  It is a streak comparable to Cal Ripkin, Jr. in baseball.  Even at 41 years old, Favre was still football’s Iron Man.  In this day & age, it is probably a streak that will never be broken.  Others will try but you have to stay healthy, or at least healthy enough for at least 19 years.

Last weekend against the Bills, on the 3rd play from scrimmage, Favre was taken down square in the back by Arthur Moats.  We all wondered what would happen this week & then, the Vikings’ stadium roof collapsed because of snow to postpone the Sunday game to Monday.  Everyone said that it was a conspiracy to give Brett an extra day off to heal.  Heal he did not because it was announced Monday evening that his streak would end.  Tarvaris Jackson manned the quarterback position for the Vikings.  Shortly afterward, his official website was selling autographed commemorative footballs inscribed with “297 starts 1992-2010,” for $499.99 each.  It is possible this will be the end of Favre’s season, as well as his career.  Whether you love him or you hate him, it was quite the achievement & quite a career.

Brett “Drama” Favre

So as if the drama that is Brett Favre wasn’t enough for the Vikings to deal with in the pre-season, he is now apologizing for being a distraction once again during the season.  Unless you’ve been living in a hole, you have undoubtedly heard about Brett’s winky dink being shown across the internet.  He sent some photos, racy texts & voice messages to a former NY Jets female employee when he played there.  We will not be posting these photos here on this fine website, but I trust you can find there somewhere if you really want to find them (which, I mean I saw them & there was very LITTLE going on, if you get I’m saying.)  Why are these scandals always involving the Jets??  Get your acts together, will you please.  The Vikings are set to play the Jets tonight on Monday Night Football.

The Squeaky Wheel: Moss

I know my mother always told me, The squeaky wheel gets oil.  Well in this case, Randy Moss is the squeaky wheel of the New England Patriots, and his noise has paid off, Moss was traded back to Minnesota this morning. It was just a few weeks ago at a press conference that Randy Moss said, for some reason he feels like people don’t want him in New England. It was rumored that he wanted out of his contract because his role on the team had slowly diminished.  So Randy’s wish came true, Traded to the Minnesota Vikings for a 3rd round draft pick. I am sure Brett is happy to have a solid and consistent target in the end zone now. Actually we will see how this new addition works out on Monday Night Football next week when the Vikings play Hottie Sanchez and the Jets.

Beggin’ For Brett

Yesterday 3 Vikings players- Jared Allen, Steve Hutchinson, and Ryan Longwell- flew to Mississippi to snatch their quarter back. It seems they went to Brett Favre and said, “What’s up bro? You with us or what?” and this plee seemed to work. Today Brett arrived in Minnesota. He is returning for his 20th season in the NFL…This is a repeat of history, but we don’t care.. WE LOVE IT!! Glad Brett is back in Minnesota….again.

We’re all a little depressed about summer ending & the cold weather coming in but there is always a bright side to every situation!  The glass is indeed half-full & I’d say this one is just about filled to the top because ladies, football is back!  In case you missed it, the NFL Hall of Fame inductions happened over the weekend & the big names this year were Emmitt Smith & Jerry Rice (yes, those former Dancing with the Stars contestants did play football once upon a time.)  With that comes the annual Hall of Fame game AKA the first pre-season game of the year!  We got our first look at T.O. & Chad Ochocinco on one team but there really wasn’t anything worth mentioning in their play.  The Bengals took on the Dallas Cowboys in Canton, Ohio (where the HOF is located) & the Cowboys won 16-7.

The rest of the pre-season games will begin on Thursday & stretch through the rest of the weekend.  Some notable games are the reigning Super Bowl champ Saints against the Patriots & Panthers versus Ravens on Thursday.  We will see the Vikings minus Brett Favre against the Rams on Saturday.  Also we will get the first look at the new Giants Stadium as the 2 NY teams battle in NJ as the first Monday Night Football of the pre-season.  Pre-season games really don’t count for anything but it is always fun to see your team in action to start the new year.  It also gives you your chance to trash talk as we have all missed doing ever so much!  If you want to see your starters, be sure to tune in early though, because all of the back-ups come in to get their work in by the second half.

The regular season will kick off Thursday, September 9 in what should be a great game: Vikings versus Saints in obviously their first matchup since last season’s NFC Championship game.  So get your fantasy teams ready & your jerseys on because it’s football season (almost!)

You may have heard of Paul the Octopus.  For some reason, the people of Germany decided it would be a great idea to have an octopus predict who would win World Cup games.  Amazingly enough, this octopus correctly picked the winner of all 8 of Germany’s games.  Paul decided it would be a good time to retire while he was still undefeated.  Since this octopus was so successful, the idea has caught on.

As we all know, Brett Favre has retired & come out of retirement & done it all over again numerous times.  So the great people of Minnesota took a page out of the German book & got a psychic octopus of their own.  The Minnesota aquarium looked to an octopus named Loki to predict whether or not Favre would retire.  Unfortunately this octopus couldn’t make up it’s mind.  At first Loki said Favre would be retiring but a few minutes later she changed her mind & decided he would be coming back.  Sounds familiar doesn’t it?
