As you know, the NFL playoffs are in full effect.  This past weekend was the Divisional Playoffs & in the AFC it was a battle of the division rivals.  The Steelers beat the Ravens & the Jets beat the Patriots.  These 4 teams hate each other so it was certainly heated.  After the Jets-Pats game, Jets linebacker Bart Scott gave one of the greatest post game interviews ever with ESPN’s Sal Paolantonio.

Next weekend will be the League Championship games.  The Jets will take on the Steelers in the AFC & the Packers will play the Bears in the NFC.  Both should be excellent games leading up to an excellent Superbowl.

The news around the NFL this week is illegal hits and the LARGE fines players are receiving if they come in for the BOOM! on another player.  The games last Sunday really brought this issue to light. Over the weekend there were 3 HUGE hits: Meriweather, Robinson, and Harrison. Three different teams, three different fines, and three very different reactions. New England Safety, Brandon Meriweather was fined $50, 000 for his helmet to helmet hit against Ravens TE Todd Heap. Meriweather has since apologized and stated that he will “play with in the rules” from now on. Steelers Line Backer, James Harrison, was fined $75,000 for his helmet hit against Browns receiver, Mohamed Massaquoi. Harrison is known to be an emotional player and took of practice on Wednesday to cool off. Harrison was so upset that he even threatened to retire, but we all know, no one would ever back out of a 51.2 million dollar contract.

The NFL is going to start suspending even 1st time offenders for these “flagrant” and “devastating hits”.  The NFL VP of Football Operations, Ray Anderson said,”We can’t tolerate what we saw Sunday…We’re talking about life-alternating impacts”. It seems clear how the NFL feels about this, but what about the players? $50, 000 here and $75,000 there isn’t just petty cash, I don’t care who you are. But the other issue lies in the play itself. Sometimes these hits are not  intentional, So should a player be fined in that case as well? Our New Orleans Saints hottie, Reggie Bush expressed himself on Twitter about the issue, dealing with the fact that a head blow beats a body blow:

The Squeaky Wheel: Moss

Posted: October 6, 2010 by NattieLiz in Brett Favre, New England Patriots, NFL

I know my mother always told me, The squeaky wheel gets oil.  Well in this case, Randy Moss is the squeaky wheel of the New England Patriots, and his noise has paid off, Moss was traded back to Minnesota this morning. It was just a few weeks ago at a press conference that Randy Moss said, for some reason he feels like people don’t want him in New England. It was rumored that he wanted out of his contract because his role on the team had slowly diminished.  So Randy’s wish came true, Traded to the Minnesota Vikings for a 3rd round draft pick. I am sure Brett is happy to have a solid and consistent target in the end zone now. Actually we will see how this new addition works out on Monday Night Football next week when the Vikings play Hottie Sanchez and the Jets.

We have all heard it: Its in the genes. Weather you wish you were taller, thinner, faster, stronger, Dye your hair black or blonde… your original genetics make up who you really are. For these  up and coming stars, its true that talent runs through their blood!

Seth and Stephen Curry:

Dell Curry is a former NBA player that happen to father not only one, but two basketball stars. Stephen Curry who is one of Golden State’s rising stars, has a younger brother Seth, that is making his way up the basketball ranks as well. Seth, 20, is a 6’1 guard that currently plays for DUKE. He was riding the bench last year, but it seems he is ready for a break out year as one of Coach K’s starting five.

Joseph and Christian Fauria:

Christian Fauria, TE, mostly known for his Super Bowl wins with the New England Patriots had a long 13 season NFL career. Even with numerous injuries, Fauria stuck it out to win two Super Bowls  in his Career. He is now analysing college football on, which is some what interesting, since his 6’7 nephew Joseph Fauria is making his own history playing in the same TE position at UCLA. Joseph Fauria will be a huge target for Kevin Prince this season and should have a break out year.

DaVaris and Phillip Daniels:

Phillip Daniels is known for being a 14 year NFL vet and the Redskins Defensive End, but he is now also known as the proud father of a 17 year old “ManChild”. DaVaris Daniels is a 6’2 wide out that can run a 4.5  40.  He is looking at going to Miami or Notre Dame  to continue his football career next year. Dad’s alma mater, Georgia is also in the top running.

Jacquizz and James Rodgers:

Oregon State has a great combo in a pair of football playing brothers. Jacquizz Rodgers is a junior running back whom the Beavers are touting as a 2010 Heisman Trophy candidate. He led the Beavers with 1,440 rushing yards, 522 receiving yards and 22 touchdowns last season.  His brother, James Rodgers, is a senior wide receiver whom the Beavers are touting as a 2010 All-America candidate. He caught 91 passes for 1,034 yards and nine touchdowns last season.  I would say those are some great genes! and it must be a blast to play side by side with your brother.
