Texas Claw and Antlers

If you’ve been watching the Texas Rangers this postseason you may have noticed some hand gestures done by the team & fans.  If you see people in the stands wearing antlers & clawing at you, do not be alarmed, we have your answers.  The claw & the antlers have become the rally cry for the Rangers this season.  The players started doing it in the beginning of the year & they wouldn’t say what they were for but anyone that watched them play on a regular basis could figure it out.  It has become a team unifying thing & makes the fans feel like they’re part of this inside joke.  They recently started selling T-shirts with these hand symbols on them & they can’t even be put on the shelves because they are selling so fast.

The Claw…

This became the symbol of strength & power, like a bear.  The claw gets displayed after a hitter safely reaches base.  When pitchers get big strikeouts, they also get the claw.

The Antlers…

The antlers represent speed & agility, like a deer.  A stolen base, stretching a base hit into extra bases or a good defensive play are all rewarded with the antlers.

There are many topics that have been tumbling through the world of sports & one of them is hair.  If it were Twitter, it would be a trending topic.  A few weeks ago we mentioned Tim Tebow’s new do & some rookie-hazing haircuts and now we’ve got a few more stories.

1st off we have Troy Polamalu, Safety for the Pittsburgh Steelers (or more affectionately known by some people as the Shitsburgh Squeelers.)  Polamalu is known for his long flowing locks but now it’s been taken to a whole new level.  He appears in Head & Shoulders commercials so the shampoo company took out a $1 million insurance policy on his hair.  You can imagine he won’t be cutting it anytime soon.  His hair now makes more money then some of his teammates.

The next bit of news surrounding hair is about Manny Ramirez.  Manny has had his long dreads since his days with the Red Sox & he gets away with a lot of things that other players wouldn’t because everyone just blames it on “Manny being Manny.”  He has recently been claimed off waivers from the Dodgers & will join the Chicago White Sox tonight.  Normally the White Sox have a policy on clean-cut appearances so the players can represent their team the right way.  This would mean that Manny would have to cut his hair to be on the team but they have allowed him to keep his dreads so Manny can just be Manny.  When your team is falling behind in the standings & you just got one of the best hitters in the game, I guess you want him to be himself.

The last one comes to us from St. Louis.  The Cardinals have fallen behind in both their division & the Wildcard race so as a gesture for team unity, everyone shaved their heads.  They did it yesterday but so far it didn’t work, as they lost the game but I guess you do what you’ve gotta do.

Football: Designer Bootcamp

Posted: August 25, 2010 by NattieLiz in Fans, NCAA Football, NFL, Trends, What not to wear

So with our Football count down to just about 8 days, it’s time to start getting ready for the big games. The first thing to worry about is of course, wardrobe. Whether you are tailgating at the stadium or kickin’ it at a bar, you MUST REP’ YO TEAM! I find the best way to do this is through absurdly annoying personalized T-Shirts.

Here is your first tutorial on how to prepare THE BEST personalized Team Shirt! ( this method will work to represent your relatives, boyfriends, hook ups, or even haters in the NFL or NCAA).

Step 1. Preparation.

These shirts can be made the day of, but I DO NOT recommend this method. Preparation is every thing, a shirt that has not been thought out, looks pretty dumb. The goal is to look cute and supportive, not like you were hung over and taped on some numbers. (trust my I have been there, and Willie Cooper #28 should have been embarrassed by our display of support that day).

Step 2. Finding the right top.

Target is now your best friend (or well now like your Super Friend, cause who doesn’t already LOVE Target). American Apparel is also a GREAT place to find something with a little more spice. Try to find a top that doesn’t have a lot of stretch to it.. sadly wife beaters are not the golden ticket on this design. Finding a school color is ideal, but if you can’t then stick with something white, because you don’t want to go to a game and have the wrong shade of red and look like an SC fan when you were rooting for Standford… embarrassing much??

Step 3. The Iron-Ons

Iron-ons are the best way to go. Forget paint, or markers, or puffy paint, they all suck. Again, iron ons are the ONLY way to make these a success. Get the school colors and #’s that you will need to make the best possible shirt, but be warned that the packaging on these is super annoying. They normally only have one of each letter or #, So your best bet is getting a group of girls to go all in with you so you can buy plenty and split the cost.

Step 4: Try on the shirt and don’t RUSH

Try the shirt on, place the letters, read the directions, and TAKE YOUR TIME! Don’t rush through this process or you will come out with a WACK final product that your ass has to wear for almost 3 hours at a time. Be gentle with the iron: don’t leave it too long and don’t peel it too soon.. I know, I know, so much pressure!! but I promise when done right, you will be looking sharp!

Prance and Frolic accordingly! Wear your shirt with pride!! and if you spill on it.. keep on truckin because most likely you are not going to be wearing the same one every weekend.. they are purely for novelty purposes and they catch the eye’s of a lot of dudes. Look it’s not only a classy piece of wardrobe, it’s a DATE Finder!! or a free beer finder, either way its  a WIN WIN!!!

Good luck ladies!! I cant wait to see what you come up with this year!

JC loves PINK

Posted: August 5, 2010 by amyaubrey in College Football, MLB, NCAA Basketball, NCAA Football, NFL, Trends

If you are anything like myself, you frequent & shop with money you do not have & buy an absurd amount of clothing.  So what happens when VS combines with my favorite thing (sports)?  I go into debt, that’s what happens.  If you are looking for something cute to wear to a game, that is the place to go.  This collection is basically what would appear if the Jersey Chasers had a clothing line.  Cute meets sporty meets girly.  Perfect for tailgating & any & all sporting events.

VS started with the PINK collegiate collection & has most of the big schools available.  They’ve got a great selection that is always expanding with new shirts, pants, sweats, etc.  After that was such a big hit, they also started PINK loves MLB & have every team.  I’m sure some teams sell better then others so if you’re a Pittsburgh Pirates fan, you’re in luck because those will probably go on sale first.  Today, they also launched their NFL collection.  I wouldn’t recommend jumping on this as the clothing is still at their highest prices nor do they have every team yet.  They will inevitably go on sale as all Vicky’s products do.  I sound like an advertisement for them right now but I assure you, I am not in fact on the payroll, just a loyal customer.  If anyone working at Victoria’s Secret reads this & would like to advertise on JC, give us a call!

Trendy or Tactical: Magnetic Bracelets

Posted: June 9, 2010 by NattieLiz in Trends

Magnetic Therapy seems to be the newest and hottest trend emerging among professional athletes.  I took the time to research some of the top brands. I own one of these bracelets personally, but I am not going to have a bias either way, because to be honest, I am not sure if I am sold on them either… I will give you the facts and let y’all formulate your own opinion on the new trend:

The idea behind the bracelets is that the body has its own energy field. With all the technology we come in contact with in our urban based lives, we are blocking the negative ions that our body “needs” for it to perform at its best. these bracelets essentially release the negative ions into the body. It also opens up the body’s magnetic field  to help healthy cell regeneration and improve the energy flow in the body. The manufactures of the bracelet all claim the same results: improved flexibility, strength, and balance, better recovery, and increased blood circulation in injured tissue.

US Today reported that American Consumers will end up spending more than 500 million dollars on magnetic therapy products this year alone. It’s no surprise because  they are worn and endorsed my the top athletes, from Lamar Odom, Shaq, Carmelo Anthony, A-Rod, and Matthew Stafford. The Three top brands to look at are, The TrionZ, C*Prime, and the most popular Power Balance Band.

The practice of magnetic therapy has yet to be approved by the FDA, But some athletes don’t seem to care too much. Broncos safety Steve Atwater isn’t waiting on scientists to bless his magnets. “I don’t know what it is, but it works,” says the 30-year-old, seven-time Pro Bowl player, “I figure it can’t hurt me, and it may help me.”
